SMARTMONEY HOUSING
The “American Dream” – a concept with countless
definitions and possibilities. This idea is one
that millions of Americans strive for each and
every day; an idea that is a part of the very
foundation upon which modern, American life is built.
Through a public service career spanning over 25
years, I have been fortunate enough to travel to
all parts of the United States. The “American
Dream” inspires and drives everyone; from
soybean farmers in Central Illinois to
stockbrokers in New York City, we all work to
build a good life for ourselves and our
families. |

| Many
times, however, in the pursuit of the “American
Dream” is hindered due to misfortunes or
misinformation. As a former Illinois State
Treasurer, the need for relevant, effective
financial educational services was one of the
most pressing issues upon which my administration focused. With news of steadily increasing home
foreclosure rates, swelling consumer credit card
debt, and a lack of practical, easily available
credit repair and educational services, it is
all our responsibility to provide both options
and opportunities to combat these important
matters.
Therefore, in answering the need of our
neighbors, I am proud to announce the formation
of SmartMoney Housing, a HUD Certified
Counseling Agency. Credit repair, homebuyer
education, pre-purchase counseling, mortgage
delinquency/foreclosure prevention, and
post-purchase counseling services are just a few
of the detailed services agency counselors will
provide. We believe that knowledge will open
doors.

Smart Money
Housing is part of the Smart Women Smart Money Educational Foundation (SWSM)
which is a
non-profit HUD-certified housing counseling agency located
on the west side of Chicago. Our original mission was to
provide financial literacy conferences to women throughout
the state of Illinois. However, our organization has
evolved and is currently concentrating on housing counseling
for both men and women in Cook County. Since 2001
SWSM has provided counseling to over 11,000 people in
Illinois. This was accomplished through both group and
individual sessions addressing money & debt management,
saving and investing, purchasing a home, avoiding
foreclosure, refinancing & loan modification, credit score
information, reverse mortgages, identity theft and credit
card education. |
